Activity in the future

We wish everyone a most Happy New Year

January 1, 2021

We would like to express our sincere thanks for your kind support in 2020. Last year marked the 120th anniversary of Chiune Sugihara s birth and the 80th anniversary of his issuance of the life savin g visas. Unfortunately we had to cancel or postpone many projects due to the pandemic, and the situation at present remains unpredictable. Still, all of us at the NPO will do what we can to make 2021 a meaningful and memorable year.

We ask for your continued support in the coming year and look forward to seeing you at the Chiune Sugihara Sempo Museum.

The Chiune Sugihara Sempo Museum wishes to announce a special exhibition in commemoration of the 120th anniversary of Chiune Sugihara’s birth and the 80th anniversary of his issuance of the life-saving visas.

Nearly all of the Sugihara visa recipients who arrived in Japan in 1940 were Jewish refugees from German Nazi-occupied Poland, many penniless and lacking proper documentation. They were given crucial aid by Polish Ambassador Tadeusz Romer, who worked tirelessly and selflessly to ensure they reached freedom. Up to 1,000 Jews are estimated to have made it to their final destinations safely thanks to the ambassador's determined efforts. Romer's actions were critical in ensuring that Sugihara's bold visa issuance in Lithuania was not in vain.

The exhibition will offer panels and videos examining the far-too-little-known story of Romer’s courageous activities on behalf of his countrymen. Dr Olga Barbasiewicz, one of the exhibition’s organizers, has created a special video message for the occasion. Details are as follows.

Happy New Year 2020

January 1, 2020

Happy New Year. May your 2020 be a bright, healthy and beautiful year.
The successful launch of the Chiune Sugihara Sempo Museum in Tokyo last March has attracted a great number of visitors from home and abroad, bringing us together with many old friends and new acquaintances. It has reaffirmed for us that Sugihara’s acts of compassion still hold lessons for the world today.
This year will mark the 120th anniversary of Sugihara’s birth and the 80th anniversary of his issuance of the life-saving visas. We are planning a number of lectures and exhibitions to mark this important occasion.
We hope for your continued patronage in the new year.

The Doodle was offered in twenty languages in nations worldwide, including the US, UK, Lithuania, China, Germany, France, Russia and Japan. The image can be found here.
